The 3-year
eGovernment Action Plan of Singapore is reviewed in this session.
The US$900 million plan aims to enhance IT deployment in the public
sector so as to better serve Singaporeans in the new knowledge-based
economy. Key lessons from the Singaporean case indicate that technology
is able to cut across hierarchies and technology sometimes drives
the business process. The public sector must therefore be prepared
to do things differently. It must be prepared to challenge the tried
and tested way of doing things to continually innovate and adapt
business and operational processes, and to radically re-engineer
and totally transform the way of doing things.
